| Eng. Controls |
Phosphoric acid has a low vapour pressure at ambient temperature. However, if mists are produced during use, or if the product becomes vapourised by contact with a very hot surface, then the exposure standard for Phosphoric acid may be surpassed. Ensure that the ventilation is adequate to maintain air concentrations below the exposure standards. If necessary, provide corrosion resistant local exhaust ventilation, exhausting to the outside of the building. Do not enter confined spaces where the vapour may have accumulated. |
|
| Personal Protection |
|
| Protective Equip. |
Wear PVC gloves and chemical goggles and / or a face shield. An acid resistant respirator to AS 1716 is recommended if spray mists are produced during use. It is recommended that a shirt with long sleeves and long trousers be worn. Always wash skin and clothing after using this product. |
|
| Flammability |
|
| Fire Hazards |
This product is not flammable under the conditions of use and does not support combustion. However, this product will liberate Hydrogen gas on contact with metals, thus creating a fire and explosion hazard. |

| Spills and Disposal |
|
| Spills & Disposal |
Spillages are slippery. Personnel involved in cleaning up any spills are to wear rubber or PVC gloves and chemical goggles. Cordon off the spillage area. Isolate the source of the spillage or leak. For large amounts, contain the spillage using a suitable non-flammable absorbent material such as sand or diatomaceous earth, and then transfer to sealed plastic containers for disposal. Dispose of large amounts in a suitable chemical dump (check the local statutory requirements). Neutralise any remaining acid using a solution of mild alkali such as soda ash, then rinse the area clean with water. For minor spills, rinsing the area clean with water would be adequate. |
|
| Fire/Explosion Hazard |
|
Fire/Explos. Hazard |
This product will liberate Hydrogen gas on contact with metals, thus creating a fire and explosion hazard. Potential sources of ignition should be excluded from the immediate area. |
Hazardous Decomposition or Byproducts |
During combustion, this product may produce phorous oxide and carbon monoxide as well as other unidentifiable organic compounds. |
Fire Fighting Procedures |
Special Protective Equipment:If this product is involved in a fire, firefighters should wear PVC gloves, enclosed footwear and self contained breathing apparatus. |
Extinguishing Media |
Use the extinguisher applicable to the source of the fire. |
